Why wealthy children are giving their inheritance to charity

Alexandra Blair explores the idea that the ‘Me Generation’ is developing a social conscience and a new sense of philanthropy and draws on the example of Michael Amherst and Avonbrook Projects Abroad to show that Michael is a pioneer for young, wealthy philanthropists in Britain. The article, which makes reference to Avonbrook’s first project – to expand the premises and pay for the salaries of two teachers at a children’s home in Madagascar, also quotes Michael who says ‘I liked the idea that the sale of [my father’s] school could spawn a new generation of schools around the world.’
