About us

Avonbrook Projects Abroad was founded in February 2007 'to advance education in the developing world by the provision of grants in support of long-term sustainable education projects.' The organisation was granted charitable status six months later.

Avonbrook has several clear objectives that make it relatively unique as an organisation. First of all our running costs are limited as much of the work on the ground is carried out by our stakeholders, whilst the day to day running of the Charity is undertaken by its Board of Trustees. The Trustees visit both proposed and ongoing projects to ensure their suitability for grants and that the proposed work takes place to the Trustees' satisfaction. This ongoing link not only ensures the best use of the Charity's money but also has the added advantage of long-term support and funds for a given project. Our goal is one of long-term, sustainable investment so that we make a real and lasting difference to a community.

We also hope to provide a more lasting experience for those who become involved with our organisation. Over the coming months we hope to set-up an internship programme for university students interested in a future in international development as well as teaming up with schools to provide fund raising experience and gap year opportunities for school leavers.

Within the next few months the Trustees will publish a research paper on how they aim to meet their objectives as well as outlining how other charities and organisations can apply to Avonbrook for grants.
